Maybe we expect Paul to echo The Sayings of the Fathers. One section, attributed to Hillel sounds almost exactly like Paul in 1 Timothy 6. In my most recent reading of the Pirkei Avot, I have been noticing many similarities between the sayings of the Fathers and the sayings of my Great Rabbi.
Here is an example:
Yose ben Yochanan of Jerusalem used to say:
Let your house be open wide;
let the poor join the members of your household; Pirkei Avot 1:5
Jesus says, ” when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:13
